Mrs. Alabama International®

April Dawson

I have managed to marry my best friend whom I found on! Yes, we are a success story! I sometimes jokingly look at my husband Chris and say, Thank you! We have 3 children, Christian, 15, is quiet, smart, & makes excellent grades, Sylas is 5, & a bundle of energy, & then we have EmmyLou, our sweet little girly girl, who loves her dresses, & stealing mommy's heels!

On April 20; I underwent a bilateral mastectomy. It has been emotional, & really frustrating in the wardrobe department(HA ) BUT I'M ALIVE, & so grateful to be CANCER FREE!! I am a very positive person, and choose to find the good in all situations. I know that Ill be showing up as a new version of Mrs. Alabama in Jacksonville, but whatever I may look like, I will rock it with the utmost confidence!

One of my greatest accomplishments was singing on the Grand Ole Opry stage at age 12! From there I catapulted into a music career, eventually becoming a backup singer, & touring with some of Country Musics top artists. I am a also a songwriter, self-taught acoustic guitar player, drummer,& Latin percussionist. Songwriting is a lot like therapy, and I enjoy that process of putting feelings on paper, & then to chords on a guitar!

In 2009, my husband took me to Saddle Up For St. Jude in Tuscumbia, AL. Its the LARGEST IN THE NATION of this kind! I saw the sweet face of Alex Denton, & heard his parents testimony about St. Jude. Alex passed just a few months later,& it really impacted me! Ive been involved every year since, & play the concert with musicians who feel the same way I do about St. Jude!
